WATCH: Police Statement on Lake Shore Drive Standoff

Chicago Police spokesman reads written statement regarding Sunday's tense standoff on Lake Shore Drive with a man sought in a Georgia murder investigation.


The following is a written statement by Chicago Police Bureau Chief of Patrol Wayne Gulliford, on Sunday's standoff on Lake Shore Drive, being read by Adam Collins, spokesman for Police News Affairs.

The standoff ended around 9:30 p.m., when the suspect wanted in connection in the death of his wife in Georgia, was taken into custody.

POLICE: Man In Lake Shore Drive Standoff, 'I'm Not Coming Out Alive'

The man whom relatives and the Henry County, GA, identified as Joseph Andrew Felton, Jr., had led police on a high speed chase from south suburban Harvey to Chicago's North Side.

Police said that the alleged murder suspect intentionally rammed several cars and told SWAT negotiators that he was heavily armed and wasn't coming out alive.

Collins would not respond to the earlier reports stating that police opened fire on the car after it crashed near Lake Shore Drive and Fullerton Avenue around 1:15 p.m. Sunday.
