Threadless Closes Lake View Location

The T-shirt company recently closed its Lake View location, and laid off over 25 percent of its staff.

Threadless, a Chicago-based T-shirt company, has shut down its Lake View store and laid off over 25 percent of its staff, according to an article by Crain's Chicago Business

"I just made one of the most difficult decisions in the 13 years since Threadless began," Jake Nickell, founer and CEO, said in a post on the company's website. "As a result of this decision, I had to let many of my friends and colleagues know that they no longer have a place here working at Threadless."

Nickell told Crain's that, although the Lake View store has closed, the company will still pursue more retail opportunities.

"We are still pursuing retail expansion, but we are looking to do so with a refined strategy," Nickell told Crain's. "Rather than trying to do it all ourselves, we intend to focus our attention toward our technology platform in order to better service Threadless artists, our community and design submission and sharing."

Threadless was called "the most innovative small company in America" by Inc. magazine in 2008.
