Lake View Carbon Emissions Among Lowest in State

Lake View is among the lowest on the North Side of Chicago for average carbon footprint per household.

Chicago may be known as the Second City, but we have some of the lowest household carbon footprints in the state, at least according to a new study by the Cool Climate Network at the University of California at Berkeley. 

Date from the study, which compares carbon footprint estimates for nearly every zip code in the U.S. was released today. 

Chicago had an overall much lower average carbon footprint per household than other parts of the state. Lake View was one of the lowest within the city, with the average household releasing 39.1 metric tons of CO2 per year in the 60657 zip code and 38.2 metric tons in the 60613 zip code, compared to 42.4 metric tons in Lincoln Park and 40.9 metric tons per household in Wicker Park. 

In comparison, many of the Northern Chicago Suburbs were among the highest in the state, with an average of 78.8 Metric Tons of CO2 per house hold in Winnetka, 71.4 in Highland Park and 58.5 metric tons per household in Skokie.
