Cubs Show Farmers Market, Ice Rink Renderings with Advertising Towers

The alderman says nothing has been agreed to regarding signage in the plaza, but the Cubs’ new designs show large pylons with advertisements surrounding a farmers market and Christmas scene.

New design renderings released Thursday by the Chicago Cubs visualize what the Triangle Plaza adjacent to Wrigley Field could look like post-construction, complete with ice rinks, farmers markets and multiple advertising towers. The Triangle Plaza, which sits at the corner of Clark and Addison streets, is part of the Cubs $500 million redevelopment plan for Wrigley Field and the surrounding neighborhood. The team already announced they plan to construct a 6,000-squre-foot Jumbotron in the outfield, but according to their planned development, the team is also considering 6,000 additional square-feet of signs in the Triangle Plaza. “Some of the big parts of that (planned development) is the acquisition of city property, rights of way, a cul-…

Cubs Launch Website to Rally Support, Neighbors Realize Realities

The new website asks neighbors to sign a petition saying they’re in favor of the redesign. The Lake View Citizen’s Council president also chimes in, saying they’ll have to make lemonade out of lemons.

The Chicago Cubs are hoping to tap into neighbors who have yet to show their support for the proposed $500 million renovation project at Wrigley Field with a new website launched on Tuesday. Simply found at www.wrigleyfield.com, the site outlines key features of the Wrigleyville renovation, including how many jobs could be created and what fans can expect to gain from the project.  The site even has a petition where fans can sign on to say, “Yes, I support the restoration of Wrigley Field because it’s a win for the Chicago economy, the Lakeview community, Cubs fans and the team.” Neighborhood leaders and some members with the Lake View Citizens’ Council have been quick to criticize certain aspects of the Cubs’ plans, citing negative …

I don't think it's good for the neighborhood on a day-to-day basis though. I am hoping that the new hotel will have some retail space there, to make room for the new "pot smoking bars" that Chicago will have once we get marijuana legalized. Its going to be a huge tourist industry, and will be something like what Amsterdam has. I cant wait!   more ›

Let There be Night: Emanuel, Tunney Propose 46 Cubs Night Games

The new proposal introduced Wednesday would allow the cubs to play up to 46 night games, as well as schedule 3:05 p.m. games on Fridays. Its two moves some neighbors frowned upon.

A new proposal by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Ald. Tom Tunney (44th) would allow the Chicago Cubs to play up to 46 night games at Wrigley Field starting next year. Introduced to City Council Wednesday, the proposal would increase the number of night games from 30 to 40, in addition to allowing Major League Baseball to schedule six more night games to be aired on television. In addition, the proposal allows the Cubs to schedule Friday afternoon games at 3:05 p.m. rather than 1:20 p.m., as well as host up to four concerts at the ballpark each season. Performers Jason Aldean and Pearl Jam have already been booked. Changes to the Cubs schedule could come as early as next month.. While making room for additional concert dates at Wrigley …

Cubs Reveal New Wrigley Designs, ‘Consider Moving’ if Not Approved

Designs for Wrigley Field’s Jumbotron, exterior, adjacent courtyard, offices and the Ricketts’ new hotel are revealed, with Cubs chairman hinting at an ultimatum.

The Chicago Cubs revealed new design renderings Wednesday morning, visualizing their plans for everything from the controversial Jumbotron to the adjacent courtyard and hotel. And if they’re not approved, Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts says he’ll consider moving elsewhere. "I'm not sure how anyone's going to stop (us from) putting signs in the outfield, but if it comes to the point that we don't have the ability to do what we need to do in our outfield, then we'll have to consider moving," Ricketts said, according to Crain’s Chicago. "… The fact is if we don't have the ability to generate revenue in our own outfield, then we'll have to take a look at moving." Ricketts later said it’s not a threat, but talks about moving “is relative to being …

I full support the Rickett's plans - all of them and night games. I live 3 blocks from the park and have been in the neighborhood 9 years. The Rickett's need to run their business. Everything they want to do is good for the neighborhood. Anyone who moved here thinking they could keep things the same is being unrealistic. The proposed redevelopment is good for the neighborhood. Extra Security at Wrigley Could Fall on Backs of Local Businesses

Part of the Cubs’ plan to add 30 extra security guards at the ballpark includes sharing that cost with local businesses and the city.

New details regarding the Chicago Cubs’ plan to renovate Wrigley Field suggest the city and local businesses would share the cost of the 30 extra security guards planned to patrol the ballpark, unnamed sources told the Chicago Tribune. Framework for the $500 million investment planned for Wrigleyville was released Monday morning, with extra security during games a priority for both the Cubs and neighbors. Adding 30 more officers would essentially double the amount of security personnel currently at the field. Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts addressed the media at Wrigley Field Monday morning, explaining the new security measures the team planned for Lake View. He explained the Cubs would pay for 10 of those officers, but when asked who would …

Extra security is needed! My boyfriend and I live in Wrigley and he works security at one of the bars right across from Wrigley Field. He is constantly having to run across the street to break up fights, which is not even part of his job and it's very dangerous. Chicago’s First Sweet Baby Ray’s Opens in Wrigleyville (PHOTOS)

The new barbecue smokehouse takes over the former Uberstein bar, offering up good eats in a renovated space.

Wrigleyville’s newest restaurant Sweet Baby Ray’s Smokehouse is officially open, bringing competition-style barbecue dishes to the neighborhood that thrives on the competitive game day spirit. Sitting at 3478 N. Clark St., the new bar and smokehouse sits in the former Uberstein space. The new barbecue restaurant, however, gave the business a fresh look and feel. “Structurally, we didn’t do much, but we did get rid of that 1980s ski chalet look,” said General Manager Scott Sonnenberg. “We have the same bar that we sanded down and added some color, and the painter wanted to have a smoky effect on the walls.” This is Sweet Baby Ray’s third location in Chicagoland, with the two other restaurants in Wood Dale and Elk Grove Village. It’s also …
