The owners of the Chicago Cubs have purchased another building in Wrigleyville, adding to their collection of properties surrounding Wrigley Field. The Ricketts family purchased the almost 29,000-square-foot building at 3721 N. Clark St. for $2.3 million, Chicago Real Estate Daily reports. They purchased it from a Tribune Co. venture that offered a lease-to-buy deal when the Ricketts purchased the team in 2009. The Cubs also occupy the building as office space, but representatives with the team have long told the community during neighborhood meetings the space has become cramped. One of the most popular Chicago Bears is now calling it quits, according to CBS Chicago.
Chicago Bears veteran of 13 years Brian Urlacher officially retired Wednesday morning, according to CBS Chicago. The 34-year-old linebacker says he has no regrets ending a professional career playing exclusively for the Chicago Bears. “Although I could continue playing, I’m not sure I would bring a level of performance or passion that’s up to my standards,” Urlacher told CBS news. "When considering this, along with the fact that I could retire after a 13 year career wearing only one jersey for such a storied franchise, my decision became pretty clear.” Urlacher recently made news in March when he couldn’t strike a new contract deal with the Bears—claiming the one-year, $2 million offer was “a slap in the face.”

New design renderings released Thursday by the Chicago Cubs visualize what the Triangle Plaza adjacent to Wrigley Field could look like post-construction, complete with ice rinks, farmers markets and multiple advertising towers. The Triangle Plaza, which sits at the corner of Clark and Addison streets, is part of the Cubs $500 million redevelopment plan for Wrigley Field and the surrounding neighborhood. The Chicago Cubs chairman says his plans for Wrigley Field and Wrigleyville will benefit Lake View as a whole, adding jobs and money.
Chicago Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts says following through with his $500 million renovation of Wrigley Field and the surrounding neighborhood will benefit Lake View. He spoke at the Lakeview Chamber of Commerce’s 17th Annual Lead Off Luncheon. There he tried convincing the crowd that the right move for Lake View is to move forward with the Cubs planned development.
With a night series and an afternoon one, expect extra crowds on the Red and Brown Lines.
After a trip to Washington, the Cubs will return home to face the Rockies and the Mets. Monday starts three night games against Colorado, so expect extra traffic around the Wrigleyville area along with Red and Brown Lines. All games start at 7:05 p.m. Sweet traffic relief comes on a Thursday break, before another three days of home games against the Mets. Games are scheduled for 1:20 p.m. Friday, 12:05 p.m. Saturday and 1:20 p.m. Sunday. As of Thursday, the Cubs are still 8.5 games back in the division with a 13-21 record. A new proposal by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Ald. Tom Tunney (44th) would allow the Chicago Cubs to play up to 46 night games at Wrigley Field starting next year. Introduced to City Council Wednesday, the proposal would increase the number of night games from 30 to 40, in addition to allowing Major League Baseball to schedule six more night games to be aired on television. In addition, the proposal allows the Cubs to schedule Friday afternoon games at 3:05 p.m. rather than 1:20 p.m., as well as host up to four concerts at the ballpark each season. The Chicago Cubs say they plan to utilize Sheffield Avenue for a block party with alcohol and music, as well as potentially allowing fans to carry open alcohol on the new Triangle Plaza, a move some Lake View neighbors say they could do without.
