Fire Destroys One Home, Damages Two in Lake View

No one was injured in the flames, which started around 7:30 p.m. Thursday night.

Firefighters tamed a blaze that destroyed one home in Lake View Thursday evening, and damaged two others. The fire started at about 7:25 p.m. in the top floor of a home on the 3700 block of Bosworth, in between Waveland and Grace avenues. Police have temporarily blocked off the area from Addison to Grace.   One man was inside the home at the time, and escaped without injury, police said at the scene. Flames from the home blew onto the deck and of the adjacent homes, causing what at first appears to be minor damage. Jen Lipford saw the smoke from her front room, just south of the home and became concerned after seeing the fire trucks. “Not more than a few minutes later I saw sirens and knew it was more than a BBQ and I looked out and saw a …

Suspect Sexually Abused 2 Girls on Red Line, Cops Say

Chicago Police are searching for a man who they said sexually abused two juvenile girls who were aboard area Red Line trains.

Local police are reminding commuters to be extra vigilant after two separate sex abuse incidents were recently reported on Red Line trains.  Both incidents involved the same offender, police said. They occurred April 11 around 7 a.m., according to an alert sent Wednesday afternoon by the Chicago Police Department's 18th district, which includes parts of Lincoln Park. "In each of those incidents, the offender approached a juvenile female victim while traveling on the CTA Red Line and touched the victim's legs inappropriately while also attempting to place his arms around the victim," the alert said. Both girls were able to exit the train while the unknown male subject fled the area. Join Patch for more neighborhood news and follow us on …

The grocery store chain had 22 cases of identity theft in Wilmette, and both the U.S. Secret Service and Treasure Island are making sure it’s the only store involved.

Slip and Fail? Cook County Jail Officer Caught on Video Faking Injury

Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart releases a surveillance video that purports to show a corrections officer didn't slip and fall as he claimed in a workers compensation claim.

Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart wants you to know he's keeping an eye on the "duty injury king" — a corrections officer known among his peers for submitting false injury claims while on the job — and others like him. The sheriff's office released a video tape Wednesday that purports to show the time and location where a corrections officer claimed he slipped and fell, injuring his back on Nov. 20. The officer is now suspended without pay, and the sheriff wants to press criminal charges. The sheriff's office's claim about the video states: On November 20th of last year a Correctional Officer submitted a false injury report claiming that he sustained a back injury while returning from transporting a detainee.
