Severe Weather Possible Monday and Tuesday

Large hail, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes are all possible.

Get ready for some storms. The storm system that dropped large hail and tornadoes on parts of Iowa, Kansas and Oklahoma is now headed toward Illinois. The National Weather Service has placed most of Illinois in the "slight risk" category for severe weather on Monday and Tuesday. The main threats on both days will be damaging winds and large hail. The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center noted in its technical discussions that isolated tornadoes are also possible on Monday and Tuesday. "The most violent storms will ignite during the afternoon and evening hours as daytime heating causes instability," Accuweather.com Meteorologist Meghan Evans wrote in her forecast. CTA Replacing 450 Contracted Rail Guards With In-House Workers

The Chicago Transit Authority is currently working to replace contracted security guards with the authority's customer service workers.

In a move that will affect 450 jobs, the Chicago Transit Authority is opting to staff its security operation in-house. Currently, security guards at the CTA's subway stations are employed by private firms and licensed by the state. " ... Riders waiting at a popular Bus No. 22 stop will have to keep on waiting, according to local officials, who say the stop will not be serviced again until November.

If you're waiting to be picked up at the northbound bus stop at North Clark Street and West Diversey Parkway, you'll have to wait until November. Bus service to that stop on the No. 22 line is being temporarily eliminated, according to a recent alert sent by the Chicago Transit Authority. "The bus stop is being temporarily discontinued due to construction on an adjacent building," it says, construction being the new two-story Walgreens.  Although the CTA doesn't have an end date for the work, 43rd Ward Ald. Michele Smith pegs it at Nov. 15. She noted in a recent newsletter that the service interruption—it started May 13—is for riders' safety.  Other nearby northbound boarding options for bus No. 22 include the Clark and Schubert stop, …
