Cubs Agree to Exchange Parking, Police for Night Games

A City Council Committee approved the ordinance on Wednesday afternoon.

The Chicago Cubs agreed to exchange free remote parking and additional police and possible security guards for "greater flexibility" in scheduling night games, according to an article by DNAInfo. The Cubs will now be allowed 35 night games with eight more allowed to meet Major League Baseball approval. The Cubs, in turn, will offer free remote parking for 1,000 cars and additional security around Wrigley Field, with 20 more police officers after night games.

The ordinance, which passed in the License Committee on Wed. and will be voted on for full approval at next week's City Council meeting, also set up penalties for concerts that may run past the 11 p.m. curfew, DNAInfo states. The ordinance would charge a fine for concerts that exceeded the curfew — $5,000 for the first half hour, $15,000 for the next half hour and $30,000 for every 30 minutes after midnight.

At a Nov. 21 meeting, the Chicago Plan Commission voted to include a "branded arch" over Clark St., and also a lane of residential parking was approved to be removed from Sheffield Ave.
