SketchfestThe famous Chicago Sketch Comedy Fest is officially back! The nation's largest sketch fest runs from Jan. 9 to the 19th. Times and prices of shows vary (and there are quite a few in Lake View). Find more details here.

Chicago Winter Bike SwapOkay, this event is in Palatine so its not technically "close by" — but bikers, you won't want to miss it. Harper College — 1200 W. Algonquin in Palatine — is hosting their annual bike swap, where bikers can come to get a new bike, get new parts or have any question on biking answered. The event is $5 (kids under 12 are free) and begins at 9:30 a.m. 

Tu Bishvat at Milt'sMilt's BBQ for the Perplexed, 3411 N. Broadway, is inviting everyone to come and celebrate "Jewish Arbor Day" with their kids on Sunday from 2:30 until 3:00 p.m. The restaurant will provide finger food, story time, activities and more. Admission is $5 per child. 

The Vintage BazaarCan't get enough vintage? The head to the Empty Bottle at 1035 N. Western Ave. on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., when the traveling flea market will be making a stop. There's a $5 cover for anyone over 21 years old. (Kids are free.)

Midnight Rocky Horror Picture ShowWhether you've never seen the movie or know the Time Warp by heart, the Music Box Theatre's monthly midnight screening of the movie is this Saturday, and will feature a shadow-cast of the film. A "Midnight Madness Virgin Kit" is available for $3 — check out what the props are for on the Music Box Theatre's site here.
