The Fitness Mythbuster Series: Spot Training...

Myth: You can lose weight off specific body parts by doing exercises that target those areas.
FACT: This concept often called "spot training" unfortunately does not work. When you lose weight, you don’t get to choose the area in which the fat is lost. Fat gets stored on our bodies in a certain order determined by gender and genetics. Men often carry weight around their core hence the terms “love handles” and “beer bellies”. Women often store fat on their hips and thighs. These spots are usually the last place we lose weight which is frustrating when you’ve been doing 1,000 sit-ups a day looking for that six-pack or 100s of leg lifts trying to get rid of those “saddlebags”. The good news is the more weight you lose the body eventually does need to take from those fat stores so don’t give up.
