The Fitness Mythbuster Series: Muscle Turns Into Fat or Fat Turns Into Muscle? NEITHER!

Myth #4:  When you stop weight training or exercising, the muscle you have developed will turn into fat.

Impossible. Muscle and fat are two completely different types of tissue. One cannot turn into the other. It often appears that muscle is turning into fat because when people go off their weight training programs they start losing muscle due to their inactivity and their diet suffers. So, bad eating habits combined with the slowing metabolism from the lack of activity give the impression that muscle is turning into fat when really muscle is being lost and fat is being amassed.

Myth #5: Similar to Myth #4, weight training turns fat into muscle.
