Lake View Bringing 'Munchkinland' to New Lincoln Park Street Festival

Lincoln Avenue LIVE will bring music, dancing, food and drinks to a once-bustling section of the corridor. It will also bring Munchkinland, coordinators announced Tuesday.

As promised, Lincoln Park's first ever "Lincoln Avenue LIVE" street festival will feature a special kids' area. It just won't be your typical one.

The festival's coordinators have recruited West Lakeview's Emerald City Theatre Company to create a "Munchkinland" for kids and families at the event. Located near the corner of Lincoln Avenue and Orchard Street, the Wizard of Oz-themed Munchkinland will include craft activities, dance parties and storytelling. Oh, and a "field of poppies photo opportunity."

Emerald City Theatre performs at the Apollo Theater Center in Lincoln Park and at Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place on the Magnificent Mile. The theater's philosphy is to create experiences that inspire early learners through play, according to its website.

Lincoln Avenue LIVE will be held from Saturday, June 1 through Sunday, June 2 in the shadows of the controversial former Children's campus, which has moved to Streeterville and is now called the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. The festival's hours will be from noon to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday and from noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday. It will feature two musical stages, arts and crafts, food and drinks.
