Burger Boss Opens in Lake View

This is the second Burger Boss location, the first being in Elmwood Park. Check out Burger Boss at 3208 N. Southport Ave.

Lake View, there's a new Boss in town.

Burger Boss, a restaurant that first opened in Elmwood Park about two and a half years ago, opened its second location on Halloween this year. The restaurant is at 3208 N. Southport Ave., just north of Belmont.

So what makes the burgers so boss?

"We use 100 percent Midwest Angus beef, it's literally the best you can buy," owner Anthony Gambino said. "Everything is made fresh every day."

The menu features a variety of burgers, including the locally named Southport Boss—applewood smoked bacon, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, Boss Sauce, pickles and grilled onions on a brioche bun. Diners can get a chicken, black bean or portobello mushroom burgers in place of the beef, and there are also salads, shakes, hand-cut fries and a kids menu.

Gambino and his brother Nick, a co-owner, have been in the restaurant business for 30 years, owning a variety of places in Chicago and the suburbs. They've been operating Cucina Paradiso in Oak Park for the last 18 years.

"All of our restaurants have always been in neighborhood locations, city or suburbs," Gambino said. "That’s what attracted us—looking around, walking around and getting a feel that it’s really a neighborhood. That’s what drew us to Lake View. People who live here and raise their kids here."

They carry this out often through its "Dine and Earn" program, in which schools and non-profits can reserve a day and get 15 percent of the net sales donated.

Gambino said Burger Boss also makes a point to be sustainable, including using low-voltage lighting, green building materials and single-serve napkin dispensers to reduce use.
