Lake View School Gets Prestigious National Nod (PHOTOS)

Mount Carmel Academy was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as being a National School of Excellence.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Academy was given a big honor Tuesday when the U.S. Department of Education awarded the Lake View school the National Blue Ribbon of Excellence.

The school, located at 720 W. Belmont Ave., received the prestigious honor because of academic achievements and cutting-edge programs. To be considered for the National Blue Ribbon, schools must have standardized test scores in the top 15 percent of schools in the nation.

OLMCA credits programs like Everyday Math—designed by the University of Chicago—and its science courses, developed in conjunction with Loyola University, as the reason to its success. The school also says they place within the 5-10 percentile of standardized test scores.
