Shared Cost Sidewalk Repair Program Already Closed
Chicago residents who didn't apply to get half off their sidewalk repairs through the city have already missed out; the popular program is already closed because of too many requests.
The window has already closed for residents to get half off their sidewalk repairs through a city program.
The Shared Cost Sidewalk Program opened Jan. 1 and split the cost of sidewalk repairs between homeowners and the Chicago Department of Transportation.
As of Saturday, the city is no longer taking requests, according to an announcement Friday from the Chicago Department of Transportation. A high number of applications has already claimed the allotted budget for the popular program.

This year, the cost to homeowners is $3 per square foot—well below a private contactor’s cost, according to the city.
The Shared Cost Sidewalk Program will start again on Jan. 1, 2014. Residents can still report sidewalk conditions to the city’s 311 program by phone or online.
