An 18-year-old man from Crown Point, IN, was stabbed with a 12-inch butcher knife on the 800 block of West Addison Street in Lake View Friday night, causing serious injuries, police say.

It all happened just outside the Lake View Lutheran Church and across the street from the 19th District Police Station.

According to the report, the man was with a 17-year-old friend who was staying at The Crib, a homeless shelter for 18-to 24-year-old youth at Lake View Lutheran Church. It was once the only of its kind in Chicago.

The pair was outside on the sidewalk when a teenage acquaintance and his girlfriend walked over, the man told police.

The girlfriend kept calling the man’s name, and when he told her to stop because he wasn’t feeling well, the acquaintance became irate. The man, believed to be 18- to 21-years-old, pulled out a 12-inch butcher knife and stabbed the teen in the stomach, creating a 3-inch long wound, police say.
