Man Pulls Gun on CTA Rider, Ice Skates Used as Weapon

From a knife being pulled at Roscoe's Tavern in Boystown to a fire squelched in Lincoln Park, these are the 19th District Police Department's most recent police reports.

The following reports are based on police reports from Chicago's 19th Police District.

The district provides police protection on Chicago's north side, from Lawrence Avenue on the north, Fullerton Avenue on the south, the Chicago River on the west and Lake Michigan on the east. 

Lake View

Knife Pulled at Roscoe’s in Boystown
Dec. 11 at 10:50 p.m.

Police were called to Roscoe’s Tavern in Boystown Tuesday night after a 25-year-old Uptown man pulled a knife on one of the bartenders. According to the police report, the 25-year-old bartender asked the man to remove his two bags from the top of the bar. When the man refused, the bartender asked again, and that’s when police say he whipped out a three-inch knife.

The man pointed the knife at the bartender before leaving the bar, located at 3350 N. Halsted St., police say. Nobody was injured, and police picked the man up down the street. The man’s first court appearance is Jan. 24.

Lincoln Park

Fire Extinguished in Lincoln Park
Dec. 11 at 5:34 a.m.

Police and firefighters responded to a call about a fire at 3033 N. Clybourn Ave. after a Lincoln Park woman woke up to find her building in flames. According to the report, a 35-year-old woman smelled smoke and saw a fire burning on her back porch.

Firefighters determined the cause to be an electrical malfunction. Nobody was injured, and none of the building’s residents needed to relocate because of the damage.

Lincoln Square

Man Targets CTA Rider
Dec. 12 at 7:05 p.m.

A 40-year-old woman from Little India was robbed at gunpoint in the heart of Lincoln Square after exiting the Brown Line CTA train station on Western Avenue, police say. According to the report, the woman noticed the man in his 20s while leaving the station but kept walking south down Western.

When she turned onto Eastwood Avenue, the woman noticed the man right behind her with a handgun, the report says. The man demanded her iPhone and ran off, but when police searched the area and canvassed local businesses, they couldn’t find him.

North Center

Man Uses Ice Skates as Weapon
Dec. 16 at 3:30 p.m.

Officers were called to the 2400 block of West Warner Avenue in North Center Sunday afternoon when police say a man smashed his neighbor’s taillight in with an ice skate.

Lake View

Four Teens Rob French Boy
Dec. 13 at 10:00 p.m.

Four teenagers robbed a 17-year-old Lake View boy at gunpoint near the corner of Seminary Avenue and School Street Thursday night, police said. According to the report, one member of the group hit the teen in the temple with a blunt object while another grabbed him from behind, choking him.

A third teen stuck a semi-automatic handgun in the boy’s face and grabbed the iPhone out of his hand, police said. The fourth teenager pulled a wallet from the boy’s pocket containing his French consulate ID and $40. The teen’s 47-year-old mother called police when the boy returned home, but police couldn’t find the four suspects.
