Female Robber Strikes at Belmont CTA Stop

Police say the culprit sprayed a "liquid" into a woman's face at 9:45 a.m., tried to steal her cell phone and ran off.

The Chicago Transit Authority and Chicago Police are on the hunt for a suspect who tried to rob a woman Wednesday morning at the Belmont CTA Red Line stop.

Ald. Tom Tunney (44th) posted the lookout bulletin to his website Monday afternoon showing still shots from a CTA camera on the scene at 9:45 a.m.

Footage shows an African American woman in a red athletic jacket walking out of the Belmont station, heading east, then running back into the station.

“A female pedestrian was walking near the Redline Belmont entrance when a female approached her and sprayed a liquid into her face,” the bulletin reads. “As the victim was blinded the offender took a cell phone from the victim’s purse.”

The bulletin says the victim fought back, recovering her cell phone.

Witnesses told security the female offender ran back into the CTA station.

Anyone with any information can call the transit authority’s 24-hour hotline at (312) 745-4443 or notify CTA Security Manager Jim Higgins at (773) 820-1019.
