Cubs Reveal New Wrigley Designs, ‘Consider Moving’ if Not Approved

Designs for Wrigley Field's Jumbotron, exterior, adjacent courtyard, offices and the Ricketts' new hotel are revealed, with Cubs chairman hinting at an ultimatum.

The Chicago Cubs revealed new design renderings Wednesday morning, visualizing their plans for everything from the controversial Jumbotron to the adjacent courtyard and hotel.

And if they’re not approved, Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts says he’ll consider moving elsewhere.

"I'm not sure how anyone's going to stop (us from) putting signs in the outfield, but if it comes to the point that we don't have the ability to do what we need to do in our outfield, then we'll have to consider moving," Ricketts said, according to Crain’s Chicago. "… The fact is if we don't have the ability to generate revenue in our own outfield, then we'll have to take a look at moving."

Ricketts later said it’s not a threat, but talks about moving “is relative to being able to have flexibility in the outfield.”

The new designs show the Cubs’ plans for a where to Toyota sign sits currently. It also shows plans for the Ricketts’ family’s new hotel across from Wrigley Field, complete with a .

Additional designs show a redeveloped Captain Morgan Club, a new office building connected to the hotel via a walkway over Clark Street and an open courtyard on the currently empty triangle parking lot west of Wrigley Field.

Crain’s reports the Cubs plan to meet with the Wrigley Rooftop owners in a few days to discuss the new Jumbotron and renderings.
