Sweet Baby Ray's Bringing 'Rib Extravaganza' to Wrigleyville

The restaurant is dishing up ribs all week and taking feedback in preparation for a competition in Reno.

Calling all rib lovers: Sweet Baby Ray’s Smokehouse, Bourbon & Beer wants your thoughts on some of their award winning dishes.

The Wrigleyville restaurant at 3478 N. Clark St. is hosting their first annual Rib Extravaganza celebration in preparation for an elite rib competition in Reno, Nev.

All week Sweet Baby Ray’s will be dishing up treats like Texas spare ribs, short ribs and more as chef Dylan Lipe takes aims for first place at the Nugget Rib Cook-off contest. Last year he snagged second, but this year, Lipe’s eye is on the prize.

"In a writer's career, you want to win the Pulitzer, you want a New York Timesbestseller," Lipe told DNAinfo Chicago. "For us, it's the same way. We want to validate what we're doing and show that not only do we have good barbecue sauce, we have a really good product."

Diners can pay $25 for a full sampler platter, or select things a la carte. And the menu is already adorned with praise. Sweet Baby Ray's has won over 50 awards including Kansas City Barbecue Society's First Place Ribs and Food Industry News Silver Platter Award for #1 Favorite BBQ Ribs.

The restaurant, which opened in the former Uberstein space in May, will be open Monday through Thursday from 4-11 pm., and Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
