Southport Wine Shop Moving, Plans Future Wine Bar

Que Syrah Fine Wines is picking up and moving just a few storefronts down, but representatives with the store say a wine bar is in their future, and the new storefront is more conducive to the idea.

Popular wine and gift shop Que Syrah Fine Wines is gearing up for a subtle move, but the managers say they have big plans for what the Southport staple could soon become.

Managers Don Hupp and Angela Snow say they’re moving the store from their longtime location at 3726 N. Southport Ave. just down the block to 3714 Southport. The second-story storefront was once home to coffee bar Café Avanti before closing in 2009.

And while the garden level business is now open as Stella Blue Design Jewelry Boutique, Snow says one day they hope to open a wine bar in that space.

“Ultimately, when vacancies are up in that store, (we’d like to open a wine bar),” Snow said. “I have to get into that building first, so we’re moving, and it’s a long process. It’s a three flat, and the basement is retail. That’s’ where we’d hope to end up some day.”

Hupp confirmed they’d like to open a wine bar, but said it’s too far in the future to dive into details. He says he’s just working on getting the right licenses to make the move and doesn’t want to speculate too much about a big change-up on Southport.

“Further down the road we might open a wine bar, but we’ll just have a second-floor retails space for now,” Hupp said. “A wine bar is part of the plan, though.”

Hupp added he’s not quite sure what the timeline of the move looks like yet, but Que Syrah will get a license to move soon.
