Q BBQ Headed to Lake View, Opening First Chicago Location

The suburban barbecue joint is taking up space in the Windy City, opening in a recently shuttered Mexican restaurant.

The popular suburban restaurant Q BBQ is headed to the Windy City, opening its first Chicago location in Lake View, according to Crain’s Chicago Business.

Already in La Grange and Naperville, Q BBQ is ready to transform the former Barrio Urban Taqueria at 714 W. Diversey Parkway into its third location. Barrio closed in late June.

“We have a lot of fans from the city coming out to La Grange, “ owner Michael LaPidus told Crain’s. “We’ll probably have a couple of city locations.”

Last year Q BBQ struck gold with Michelin’s restaurant guide, earning a Bib Gourdman, one of only 12 restaurants in Chicago’s suburbs to snag the honor.

“It really is a testament that we do make great food here,” LaPidus told Patch after receiving the honor. “Our service is just over the top and our staff that we’ve assembled downstairs is really an [asset] to this award.”

Bib Gourmand awards are the elite Michelin guide’s “value” recommendations, denoting, according to the guide’s website, “good cuisine at a reasonable price in a variety of comfort categories.” Eligible restaurants offer two courses and wine or dessert for under $40. (More expensive restaurants compete for the well-known Michelin stars.)

Construction on the new Diversey Parkway restaurant reportedly started Tuesday, according to Crain’s, and LaPidus hopes to have the restaurant open around Dec. 1.

Q BBQ joins a multitude of other new barbecue restaurants recently opened in Lake View like Wrigley BBQ, Sweet Baby Ray’s, Milt’s Kosher Barbecue for the Perplexed and the upcoming Old Crow Smokehouse.
