New Restaurant with Cuban Flair Heading to Lake View

Sabor Cubano has been a successful restaurant in the suburbs for years, and now owners want to bring their Cuban flavors to North Broadway.

Those itching to sit down for some authentic Cuban food in Lake View are in luck, because new restaurant Sabor Cubano is headed to North Broadway.

Slated to fill the former New Peking Chinese Restaurant at 3132 N. Broadway next to Wilde Bar & Restaurant, restaurant owner Pedro Suarez says he plans to officially sign the paperwork for the 2,000-square-foot space next week.

“We’re under contract with the building owner right now, and next week we’ll have the inspection,” Suarez said. “Sometime next week we’re going to check out the ‘hood and get the inspection cleared up. Once that happens, we’re all set.”

Suarez, who says he’s been in the restaurant business for 16 years, says once the paperwork is signed, residents can expect to snag a bite of his fresh Cuban-style sandwiches in about a month.

“I’m the kind of guy who, once I (sign the paperwork), I’ll just get it done,” Suarez said.

And Illinois is no stranger to Suarez’s style of cooking. Sabor Cubano is already an apparently successful business roughly 30 miles west in the Town of Addison. But based on what diners on Yelp are saying, the restaurant will apparently be a great addition to the restaurant-heavy business corridor.

“Definitely going back to this gem,” said John W. on Yelp. “Not many Cuban places in this area so very happy to try it out. I had the Havana steak sandwich and it was delicious! The owner was real nice and makes a killer sandwich!”

Suarez says he’s still unsure whether he plans to close the Addison location, because along with being the business owner, he also prefers to be the main chef.

As for now, Lake View diners can expect to soon snag a bite of the real deal.

“It’s all authentic Cuban cuisine,” Suarez said. “I mean, the recipes come from my grandma and my mom. I’m very excited, everyone’s excited. I want to focus all my energy in the Lake View area, so I really want to get in there and put 110 percent in that area.”
