Lake View's Ald. Tunney to Close Andersonville Ann Sather

The Lake View alderman says the restaurant will close the end of the year, but the stores in Lake View and Edgewater will remain.

Lake View’s Ald. Tom Tunney (44th) announced Thursday he plans to close his Andersonville Ann Sather location at the end of the year after opening it in 1987, Chicago Real Estate Daily reports.

Tunney sold the building at 5207 N. Clark St. to real estate investment firm Newcastle Ltd., and he’ll lease it from them to keep Ann Sather open through December.

"After careful consideration, I decided to consolidate our Andersonville-area restaurants at our newest location at 1147 West Granville," Tunney told CRED in a news release. "To ensure an orderly transition, I negotiated leasing back the restaurant through the end of the year. Our additional locations at 909 W. Belmont and 3411 N. Broadway also will remain open and are not affected by this business decision."

Tunney purchased his first Ann Sather restaurant on Belmont at 24-years-old in Lake View. The restaurants are best known for their cinnamon rolls.

Newcastle Ltd. also purchased an entire city block worth of storefronts in a prime business corridor in Lake View.

Located at 3300 N. Broadway, the 12,500-square-feet of retail space was sold for $7 million, the company announced in early December. The group of storefronts—including Caribou Coffee, Homemade Pizza Company and Ultimate Exposure—spans along North Broadway from Aldine Avenue to Buckingham Place.
