Demolition Planned for Former Bell Studio Building on Southport

The 2-story building will soon come down in Lake View, making way for a new development.

Owners of the Lake View building once home to Bell Studio say its slated for demolition, with a new development planned shortly thereafter.

The 2-story building at 3428 N. Southport Ave. is half a block north of the Southport Brown Line CTA station. Demolition permits were approved by the City of Chicago Monday.

Frank Campise, CEO of JAB Real Estate Opportunity Funds, owns the hot piece of real estate. He told Patch previously that he planned to renovate the storefront to make room for a new retailer, but now he plans to altogether rebuild the structure.

Details surrounding the upcoming development are still under wraps, with Campise saying more information should be available in upcoming weeks.

He did say, however, that neighbors shouldn’t be worried about a dramatic change.

“We’re going to build something that’s within the context of the neighborhood,” Campise said.

Forever Yogurt was once rumored to fill the space, and even listed as an upcoming franchise on the company’s website, but the deal fell through.

The Bell Studio building sits just across the street from Candyality and Coobah  two other storefronts in transition. New owner L3 Capital told Patch Tuesday they’re considering either merging the two for one larger store, or demolishing the two and rebuilding.
