Man in Custody After SWAT Standoff in Lake View

The man was found in a stolen vehicle, ran to a nearby building and threatened to jump off its roof, police say.

A 21-year-old man is in custody after a Chicago Police SWAT team standoff on a roof in Lake View Monday night, authorities report.

Officials with the Chicago Fire Department responded to the 800 block of West Addison Street around 8:30 in an attempt to talk the man down, according to scanner reports.

The man was first discovered in a stolen vehicle in a parking lot near the building, the Chicago Tribune writes. When police approached him, the man pushed an officer, ran to a nearby building and threatened to jump off its roof.

A SWAT team was subsequently called, forcing CTA to reroute its Addison Street bus line.

The Chicago Fire Department also responded with a jump bag, but it was never deployed, Chicago Fire Media tweeted Monday night.

The incident occurred on the same block as the 19th District Police Station. Authorities used the station as a command post.

The man was taken into custody uninjured around 10 p.m., according to scanner reports. He was sent to Lake View’s Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center for evaluation, and charges are pending, the Tribune writes.
