Man Dies After Falling on Third Rail at Addison ‘L’ Station

The man was with a family member when he fell on the tracks in Wrigleyville and was electrocuted early Friday morning.

A man died early Friday morning in Wrigleyville after falling on the tracks at the Addison “L” Station, touching the third line, electrocuting him, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Otis Carmichael of California was with family when he fell on the tracks at 940 W. Addison St. around 1:35 a.m. Friday, authorities told the Chicago Sun-Times.

He was immediately transferred to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where he was declared dead at 2:16 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. The Tribune writes police think the man may have been intoxicated when he fell.

The third rail is an electric rail installed to provide power to “L” trains.

The medical examiner’s office told the Sun-Times that Carmichael’s apparent cause of death was electrocution, but his official autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
