Tunney, Ricketts Unveil New Lake View Mural (PHOTOS)
The Lake View alderman was joined by the Cubs chairman to dedicate a new photographic mural in the neighborhood Tuesday.
Chicago Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts joined Ald. Tom Tunney (44th) and Choose Chicago President and CEO Don Welsh Tuesday to dedicate a photographic mural at the Barry Street pedestrian underpass.
The Cubs and Tunney worked together to select the location in Lake View, saying the idea behind the mural is to showcase photographs of people in Chicago neighborhoods, including neighbors in Lake View.
“We’re happy to support Choose Chicago's effort to promote and enhance the Lakeview community,” said Tom Ricketts. “Our mission is to continue to be good neighbors and give back to our community, and we’re thrilled with the opportunity to showcase the amazing attributes of Lake View.”

Launched in 2012, HUG Chicago was created by Choose Chicago, the city’s official tourism organization and is supported by the Cubs. Last year, the team donated $150,000 to Choose Chicago’s HUG program and provided more than 80 Cubs front office associates to paint the Roscoe and Barry underpasses to the lakefront and clean areas throughout Chicago.
“As we work to achieve Mayor Emanuel’s goals for increased visitation, protecting and enhancing Chicago’s assets is critical,” said Don Welsh, Choose Chicago President and CEO. “Thanks to the continued support and commitment from Tom Ricketts and the Chicago Cubs, Alderman Tunney, and the numerous supporting sponsors over the last two years, HUG Chicago has made a considerable and lasting impact. This impressive photographic mural is emblematic of the enormous pride Chicagoans have for our magnificent city.”

"This mural is a true depiction of collaborative public art and embraces Lakeview’s diversity and unity," said 44th Ward Alderman Tom Tunney. "It beautifies the entrance to our lakefront creating a welcoming atmosphere that will be enjoyed daily by residents and visitors to our neighborhood."
In the last two years, Chicago Cubs Charities and Cubs Care—a fund of the McCormick Foundation—have contributed more than $500,000 directly to the Lake View community. Since 2000, Chicago Cubs Charities has given more than $2.5 million in Cubs Care grants directly to organizations serving Lake View.
