Should the Pride Parade be Moved Downtown?

Ald. Tom Tunney (44th ward) told WBBM that he would consider moving the annual Pride Parade from Boystown to the Loop based on what he's heard from Lake View residents.

"If they feel it's outgrown, it's a public safety issue for them as residents and for the partygoers," Tunney said. "I would consider moving it."

The parade, which welcomed more than 1 million people to Lake View this year, could be a better fit downtown, perhaps along Columbus Drive. Tunney said the focus would be back on the parade instead of the party, and it would be more visible and accessible downtown.

Meanwhile, WBBM also reports that the general manager of Roscoe's Tavern said the police presence was lacking following the parade

“There were quite a few people on the street smashing their beer bottles, sitting on steps of residences; and the police, basically – from my perception – stood there and just allowed it to happen,” Brendan Chrisman said, according to WBBM.
