PHOTOS: Hundreds Race in New Year's Day 5K

The annual event by the Lake View Citizens' Council has Windy City runners racing through Lincoln Park on the first day of 2013.

Hundreds braved the 25-degree temperatures Tuesday morning to run in Lake View Citizens’ Council’s annual New Year’s Day 5K race through Lincoln Park.

Now celebrating its 28th year, the iconic event is an annual favorite of Windy City fitness enthusiasts, with some even dressing up on race day.

An estimated 1,500 runners and walkers laced up on the first day of the New Year at the event starting at 11 a.m. at the south end of Lincoln Park. The course route went north along the lakefront bike path to Diversey Harbor before returning to the North Avenue Field House.
