'Mega Garage Sale' Planned for Multiple Blocks in Lake View

Start collecting your one-dollar bills, because the Hawthorne Neighbors are holding the area's first annual “Mega Garage Sale” on Oct. 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Hawthorne Neighbors is a community group in the heart of Lake View, bounded by Belmont Avenue on the south, Addison Street to the north, Clark Street on the east and Racine Avenue to the west. Homeowners in this area are banding together on the 20th to hold as many garage sales as possible.

Maps of which houses participating in the event will be available on Oct. 15. In addition, every house with a garage sale on the big day will have a red balloon as a sign to come over to dig through piles of goodies.

However, this isn’t a for-profit event. All proceeds from the garage sales in the community will go toward funding Lake View’s new School Street Playlot. The park is slated to be the largest in the 44th Ward, and community members are tasked with raising $200,000 for additional features by the time the park is completed in 2013.
