Lake View has Second Highest 'Creative Class' in Chicagoland

A study of census data reveals Lake View is only behind one other Chicagoland community when it comes to the number of professionals in creative positions.

Lake View has one of the highest concentrations of people in the “creative class” in the Chicagoland area, according to Census data analyzed by The Atlantic Cities.

The wesbsite, owned by The Atlantic Monthly, broke down data by Census tract around the Chicago area, defining “creative class” as those people working in science and technology, business and management, arts, culture, media and entertainment, law, and healthcare.

A Census tract is a small area that can be even smaller than a neighborhood.

Falling just one percent behind Chicago’s leader Hyde Park, 80 percent of people in Lake View were found to be working in the “creative class,” The Atlantic Cities reports. That’s compared to the entire Chicago metro area, where only 35 percent of workers—still higher than the nation’s average—work in the creative class.

The specific part of Lake View the study points out is the Census tract from North Southport Avenue to North Racine Avenue, and from West Roscoe Street to West Belmont Avenue.
