Updated: CTA Has "Major" Delays Due to Weather

Many CTA, Metra and Amtrak trains are extremely delayed due to the cold temperatures.

The Chicago Transit Authority issued a warning on Monday morning around 6:15 a.m. that many trains — including the red, purple and brown line — were operating under "major" delays due to the cold weather.

As of 7:19 a.m., the red line had been changed to operating at normal service, while the purple line is resumed with major delays and shuttle service.

"Delays affecting lines may increase [average] wait times by 10-15 minutes on parts of the 'L'," the CTA tweeted around 7 a.m.

Around 7:25 a.m., the CTA announced that all trains are running, although there are still 10-15 delays on most "L" lines.

Many Metra trains are also extremely delayed (up to 50 minutes for some) or cancelled, with the the #311, #316, #313 and #324 completely cancelled for the day.

Amtrak train service is also scaled back to due to the weather, according to an article by ABC. A full list of cancelled Amtrak trains is available here
