Around 600 Lake View Christmas Trees Remain

Around 600 of the 650 trees posted around the Lake View by the Central Lakeview Merchants Association remain after Saturday's giveaway.

Almost 600 of the 650 Christmas trees put up on poles across Lake View by the Central Lakeview Merchants Association remain after a giveaway hosted on Saturday, according to DNAinfo. The idea behind the trees was that people who couldn't afford to purchase one could take one home for free last Saturday. Fifty-one trees were given away at Houndstooth, 3369 N. Clark St. and Baker and Nosh, 1303 W. Wilson Ave. as part of that giveaway.

Jeff Briggs, who does business relations for the Central Lakeview Merchants Association called the event a "successful day," the DNAinfo article states.

"51 trees later...Central Lakeview Merchants was proud to spread the holiday cheer this past Saturday by giving away our Christmas trees to people in need," a post on the Central Lakeview Merchant's Facebook page read

The undecorated trees were tied to light poles throughout parts of Wrigleyville and Lake View.

The remaining trees will stay on the light poles until after Christmas.
