OLD PULTENEY SINGLE MALT SCOTCH WHISKY AND US SAILING ANNOUNCE LOCAL CHICAGO FINALIST FOR THE 2013 MARITIME HEROES AWARD

Voting has officially begun to see if Chicago’s own Don Glasell will be the 2013 recipient of the Old Pulteney maritime Hero Award. Three finalists were chosen from a large selection of nominees based on their demonstration of passion, commitment and achievement to the sailing community. Now, Don must gain enough support from the city of Chicago to be deemed the next Old Pulteney Maritime Hero.

Don Glasell is up against San Diego’s Richard Goben and Traverse City’s Rorke Miller. Don Glasell, while recently sailing his 50th Chicago-to-Mackinac race last summer, has also always been an active member of The Chicago Yacht Club and the Judd Goldman Adaptive Sailing Foundation. He has made strides during his attempts to make sailing more accessible to inner-city kids as well as being instrumental in the development of the CYC’s Junior Activities Committee’s course content and instructional programs and is now an active participant in the movement to develop a Maritime Museum.

The Old Pulteney Maritime Hero award sets out to reward the finalist who embodies the art, life and love of sailing while showing a valiant effort to give back to their local sailing community. Voting is underway at www.maritimeheroes.com between now and December 1st.
