National Beauty Chain Sets Up Shop on Southport

European Waxing Center will open in just four weeks after an extensive build out. There are almost 450 in the United States.

As locally owned businesses like Safari Cup, Lakeview Physical Therapy and Bell Studio leave the Southport Corridor, a national chain is gearing to open a new location.

European Waxing Center is doing an estimated $150,000 build-out at 3728 N. Southport Ave. next to Chase Bank. The almost 2,100-square-foot storefront will soon be one of the chain’s nearly 450 locations nation-wide.

Chicago's other locations are in Lincoln Park at 2065 N. Clybourn Ave. and 2717 N. Elston Ave.

Permits to renovate the space, formerly occupied by Platt Construction, were approved mid-April. They detail a transformation to add an entry lobby, six service rooms, an office, storage areas and restrooms.

A representative with the general contractor at the scene said construction has been under way for almost two weeks, and they plan to be finished and open in about a month. He added the franchise owner is very private and will not talk to media about the new business.

Prices range from lip and chin waxing for $9 to Brazilian bikini waxing for $42 and full leg waxing for $60. Prices are the same for men.
