Cubs Donate 30K Gifts after Toy Drive

The holiday toy drive at Wrigley Field was a major success, with children in need receiving 30,000 toys this season.

Chicago Cubs fans were apparently in a giving mood this holiday season, with the team’s annual toy drive raking in 30,000 gifts for children in need.

The Chicago Cubs Charities partnered with WGN Morning News for the holiday toy drive from Nov. 25 until Wrigley Field’s tree lighting ceremony on Nov. 30. Residents were encouraged to bring unwrapped toys to the Cubs’ administrative office, and in return, they received a free pass to the Rink at Wrigley.

And according to a statement by the Cubs, the toy drive was a big success.

“Thanks to your generous donations, WGN was able to donate 30,000 toys for children in need during the holiday season to the Jennifer Hudson's Julian D. King Gift Foundation,” the statement read.

The Chicago Cubs hosted their second annual holiday event capping off the toy drive under the Wrigley Field Marquee, complete with a tree lighting ceremony, ice-skating, a visit from Santa and more.
