Blaine Collects More than 2,400 Books for CPS Schools

It's all a part of the Book Worm Angel's project. The books will be distributed to schools around Chicago.

Students at Lake View’s Blaine Elementary School are lending a helping hand to area Chicago Public Schools this holiday season, not by giving money, but by donating books.

It’s all a part of the Book Worms Angels program, a literacy organization serving more than 170 Chicago Public Elementary Schools of almost 100,000 students. With donations like Blaine’s, the program has collected almost two million books in 12 years.

“Blaine recently held a book drive to collect gently used and new books, as part of the Book Worms Angels program, and Blaine families responded!” the local school wrote on its website. “Your generous donation of more than 2,400 books will be distributed to more than ten classrooms, at various underperforming schools in Chicago.”

And Blaine Elementary is on a holiday-giving roll. Just last week students rallied to donate more than to the Lakeview Pantry.
